Babeş-Bolyai University - Center of Excellence With over 45.000 students and 21 faculties, the Babes-Bolyai University is one of the largest and most complex intellectual centers in Romania. The University, named after famous Romanian scientist Victor Babeş and Hungarian mathematician Bolyai János, has roots already in 1581, as a Jesuit College. Being a multilingual and multicultural institution, it represents the actual state of interethnic relations in Transylvania. In the course of its history, the University was subject to drastic changes, mainly regarding the number and ethnic composition of students. Nowadays however, these numbers remain constant and academic education is carried on in four different languages for several ethnic groups. The University offers not only high level education for the willing, but also up-to-date research facilities, with research centers in the field of Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Informatics and Social Sciences. All these centers participate and excel regularly in national and international projects, and have a solid place in the international scientific community.
